Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (RQF)
The Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (RQF) is a nationally recognised qualification for experienced care workers who are ready to take on more responsibility and lead care delivery in adult social care settings. It is suitable for those working in residential, domiciliary, day care, or clinical environments.
Purpose of the Qualification
This diploma supports the development of skills and knowledge for lead adult care workers. It equips learners to work independently and lead others, promoting high-quality care aligned with the standards set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Course Content
The course includes mandatory and optional units. Mandatory units develop essential knowledge and practice. Optional units are selected to suit the learner's work setting and role.
Mandatory Units Include:
- Promote communication in care settings
- Promote personal development
- Promote equality and inclusion
- Duty of care in care settings
- Safeguarding and protection
- Promote health, safety and wellbeing
- Responsibilities of a care worker
- Promote person-centred approaches
- Support individuals with cognitive impairments or mental health conditions
- Handle information in care settings
Optional Units May Include:
- Supporting individuals at the end of life
- Medication administration
- Dementia awareness
- Managing continence
- Team leadership and supervision
- Record keeping and quality assurance
Course Details
- Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 307–450 hours
- Assessment: Workplace observations, written assignments, reflective accounts, and portfolio of evidence
- No exams – assessment is competency-based and conducted in real work environments
Entry Requirements
- Age 18+ (recommended)
- Experience working in adult social care
- Suitable for those who have completed a Level 2 Diploma or equivalent
Progression Opportunities
- Level 4 Certificate in Principles of Leadership for Adult Care (RQF)
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care
- Senior roles such as Team Leader, Care Supervisor, or Deputy Manager
